Resurrection Feedback 15 for Sound Out Performed at Small Room Beijing 2 09/09/25
4 iPhones, String, plant pots, rain. Performed at Small Room, Beijing
‘Resurrection Feedback’ These performances comprise of old and outdated iPhones that were abandoned by friends and family. I have revived these phones and coded software that allows the speaker to pick up the microphone causing a feedback loop. The feedback creates a tone that can be controlled by moving and obscuring the iPhones.
This series aims to confront technological obsolescence and hypercommercialism by showcasing ‘obsolete’ iPhones potential for art making. This is not outrightly said in the performances but serves as an underlying framework for the series. Repurposing the phones for artistic exploration is made possible by writing code on the programme Pure Data. This code is downloaded to the iPhones and performed with. The code is then released so it can be freely downloaded by anyone in hopes to encourage others to repurpose obsolete technology. The body of each performance is contrasting and often site-specific.
